How to Sew a Patio Umbrella Video Sailrite

Posted by [email protected] on

The key to a great, durable umbrella is the nice of material you select. Look for a cloth with high UV and fade resistance, so it won’t wear out or look faded after a year in the sun. We chose a Sunbrella Upholstery Fabric, which offers impressive fade resistance and great color alternatives. If you wanted extra water resistance, Sunbrella Marine and Awning fabric also are a great choice.

The canopy, or fabric, of a patio umbrella is made of two parts: the gores, which form the body of the canopy, and the vent. In the video, you will hear us discuss with the gore, that's a technical term for any triangular piece of material used in three dimensional fabrication. So vegetable garden shade cloth refers back to the triangular segments that make up the main canopy of the umbrella. The vent is the small round part at the end of the umbrella. The vent is critical because it allows air to flee, which prevents heat building up and keeps your umbrella from acting like a kite and blowing away.
